Taller GEO Juvenil con docentes en Chile

Informa: Rolando Álvarez Hernández GEO Juvenil Chile Docentes conocieron en taller cómo formular proyectos y grupos de trabajo en temáticas medioambientales.  Un completo éxito resultó el Taller GEO Juvenil “Abre tu ojos al medio ambiente” tanto por convocatoria como por la recepción de los docentes que participaron en dicha actividad organizada por la Coordinación Región de Valparaíso del Programa EXPLORA CONICYT y GEO Juvenil del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (PNUMA).
“El taller me pareció muy interesante y entretenido, ya que conocí otras formas de enfocar el problema del medio ambiente”, expresó la profesora del Colegio Luis Cruz Martínez de Quilpue, María Soledad Guzmán, quien además valora el hecho de sentir que no está trabajando sola estas temáticas como ello lo pensaba, “sino que hay muchísima gente interesada en mantenerlo.”
 La capacitación fue dirigida por Rolando Álvarez, Punto Focal de GEO Juvenil, el sábado 30 de agosto en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV), donde trabajó en grupos que desarrollaron cada una de las temáticas contenidas en el Manual de Capacitación GEO Juvenil para América Latina y el Caribe, instrumento que aborda tres temáticas; Estado del Medio Ambiente, Escenarios Futuros y Guía de Acción Juvenil.
El taller se inició con el capítulo Estado del Medio Ambiente, donde se revisaron los principales problemas ambientales como el estado de las aguas, atmósfera, bosques, zonas marinas y costeras, entre otros.
El docente del Colegio Niño Jesús de Praga de Quillota, Omar Lucero, manifestó que el taller le dio énfasis a la formación de equipos y grupos de trabajo que aborden el tema medioambiental en forma práctica a través de proyectos. Este fue precisamente el objetivo de la actividad, ya que en la segunda parte, Guía de Acción Juvenil, los asistentes vieron directamente cómo generar un grupo de trabajo o de investigación, donde se les proporcionó herramientas y asesoría para comenzar un grupo ambiental y convertirlo en un proyecto.
“Voy a volver a pulir aún más un proyecto que tengo desde hace muchos años y nunca lo he podido llevar a cabo y creo que esta vez he conocido más instituciones que podrían acogerlo. En cuanto a los alumnos nos dieron excelentes ideas para trabajar el taller con ellos y creo que el Manual me va a ser muy útil” indicó la profesora María Soledad, quien expresó que “como dice el nombre del taller me abrió aún más los ojos al Medio Ambiente”.

GEO for Youth LAC' Delegates in Panama City - December 2007 Delegados de GEO Juvenil ALC en Ciudad de Panamá - Diciembre 2007 By/Por Elizabeth Osorio (DEAT - PNUMA) [Español abajo] Greetings everybody, As you already know, the third Regional Meeting of GEO for Youth was held in Panama City in November 2007. One of the most important outcomes of this meeting was the elaboration of the Regional Action Plan ( See here, pdf - 63 kb). DEWA would like all national focal points and national networks to discuss this Action Plan. We would also like to organize a virtual meeting where we would analyze the Plan of Action and talk about the commitments being taken. DEWA has a new tool to facilitate conferences, workshops and other kinds of communications named “Elluminate” which allows multiple people to be virtually present and talk at a given time. Como todos ustedes saben, la Reunión Regional de GEO Juvenil se realizó en noviembre del año pasado en la Ciudad de Panamá. Uno de los productos más importante de esta reunión fue el Plan de Acción 2008 – 2010 (ver aquí -pdf, 64kb).
Nos gustaría que todos los focales y las redes nacionales discutieran este Plan de Acción y sería muy positivo tener además una reunión virtual para analizar en detalle los compromisos.
Nosotros – DEAT – tenemos una nueva herramienta para realizar conferencias, talleres y otra clase de comunicaciones, llamada “Elluminate” que nos permitirá tener una reunión virtual con múltiples personas.  Simon Michaud - Voluntario de IISD / Intern of IISD Por/by Elizabeth Osorio (DEAT / ORPALC-PNUMA) [English follow]
Hoy llega a la Ciudad de Panamá, el joven Simon Michaud, voluntario de IISD por seis meses (septiembre 2008 – febrero 2009).
Él nos estará apoyando en actividades específicas del Plan de Acción GEO Juvenil 2008 – 2010, en especial con los objetivos relacionados con Networking para todo ALC.
Simon estará bajo la supervisión de la Dra. Graciela Metternicht y Kakuko Nagatani en la División de Evaluación y Alerta Temprana, en PNUMA ORPALC.
Simon Michaud cuenta con 24 años; tiene un bachelor en Arts in Human Ecology. Él es de Québec, Canadá y habla fluidamente el inglés, español y francés. Ha visitado ciertos países en Latinoamérica como son: Guatemala, Bolivia y Costa Rica, donde realizó una pasantía y fue voluntario.
Yo espero ir a buscarle al aeropuerto junto a los chicos de Panamá Verde y darle el recibimiento. Mañana espero que él pueda estar con nosotros en la oficina.

Today, Simon Michaud – Intern of IISD will be arriving in Panama City for Start his internship (six months – September 2008 – February 2009).
He will be supporting us on specific activities related with the Action Plan 2008 – 2010 of GEO for Youth, in special with the objectives associated with Networking for LAC.
Simon will be under supervision of Graciela Metternicht and Kakuko Nagatani in the Division of Early Warning and Assessment, in UNEP ROLAC.
Simon is 24 years old, has a Bachelor in Arts in Human Ecology. He is from Quebec Canada and speaks fluent Spanish, English and French. He had visited some countries in Latin America, as: Guatemala (where he did his Ethnographic research) and Bolivia and Costa Rica (where he gave Humanitarian Aid).

Nuevos Puntos Focales Nacionales en GEO Juvenil México
|
 Los amigos de GEO Juvenil México presentaron al nuevo equipo de conducción nacional
Desde el 1° de Agosto, GEO Juvenil México tiene nuevos Puntos Focales Nacionales. Se trata de 4 jóvenes que vienen a reemplazar en la conducción a Lorena Gudiño, Anguie Bragado y Julio César Cruz. El suceso forma parte del recambio generacional que todo proceso necesita para garantizar la continuidad en el tiempo.
De esta manera, GEO Juvenil México pasa a estar liderado durante el período 2008 - 2010 por: Francisco Javier Muñoz Aranda (Colima), Leonardo Vladimir Pérez Hernández (Jalisco), Rafael Baltazar Castro Molina (Morelos) y Raúl Cuellar Ramírez (Puebla). Mediante un comunicado oficial, se anunció que "En congruencia con el empoderamiento, la participación, transparencia e inclusión que GEO Juvenil promueve con su trabajo desde hace casi 8 años es que, durante el Foro Nacional (realizado el pasado mes de Abril), se efectuó la elección de nuevos Puntos Focales Nacionales, quienes tienen como responsabilidad la de coordinar y planear estratégicamente las actividades de la red".

Handy Cuellar e eu (Gabriela Monteiro) viemos aprensentar o relatório sobre o Global Youth Retreat (GYR) que aconteceu de 28 a 31 de Julho no Quênia. Este foi um momento importante para discutir a estratégia Tunza e como podemos melhorá-la. Sei que alguns de vocês não tiveram a oportunidade de trabalhar com a estratégia porque ainda temos algumas limitações. Porém, estamos tentando melhorar e queremos poder contar com mais organizações parceiras na área de juventude.

This was a very important moment to discuss the Tunza Strategy and how we can improve it. I know that some of you didn't have the chance to work with the strategy because we still have some limitations. However, we are trying to improve and we want to be able to count on more partner organizations in the field of youth.

Volvo Adventure
|
 [English follow] Este año tenemos nuevamente el premio de la Volvo Adventure.
Este informe está dirigido a las personas que desean participar en el premio Volvo Adventure. Pueden participar equipos de dos a cinco jóvenes que estén llevando a cabo una acción práctica para mejorar el entorno de su escuela o comunidad. El premio se destinará a proyectos que ya se estén desarrollando y que hayan tenido un impacto positivo en el medioambiente. Si todavía estás empezando, también podemos ofrecerte recursos para ayudarte a poner tu plan en práctica con la referencia de otros proyectos que tuvieron éxito en el pasado. Muchos de los ganadores se registraron un año y presentaron su proyecto el año siguiente. Los jóvenes, entre 13 y 16 años, deben diseñar planes de acción que beneficien al medioambiente. Será necesario especificar el papel desempeñado por cada participante en el proyecto y las acciones en las que han participado. La idea central del proyecto puede ser cualquier asunto relacionado con el medioambiente que hayáis encontrado interesante; por ejemplo se han presentado proyectos sobre:
Biodiversidad – de qué manera ayuda la gente joven a los animales y las plantas en su comunidad.
Desechos – qué medidas han tomado los jóvenes para reducir el volumen de desechos y reutilizar y reciclar más.
Agua – cómo han logrado mejorar la calidad del agua en su escuela o comunidad.
Energía – qué métodos han utilizado para reducir el consumo de energía o hacerlo más sostenible.
Transporte – cómo los jóvenes han realizado campañas para reducir la congestión del tráfico local. Lo único que tienes que hacer es registrarte y exponer tu idea AQUÍ. Los grupos que hayan enviado los mejores proyectos tendrán la oportunidad de presentarlos en una conferencia internacional que se celebrará en Suecia y competirán por el premio final. Todas las ideas y planes de acción se publicarán y presentarán en el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el medio ambiente. Este informe tiene como finalidad ayudarte a inscribir tu proyecto en el sitio Web. En la siguiente sección se detallan los aspectos que debe cubrir tu propuesta. Puedes preparar las respuestas antes de registrar tu proyecto en la Web. Fecha límite para aplicar: 31 de enero de 2009 ---- This is a briefing for people wishing to enter the Volvo Adventure award. The award is for teams of two to five young people working on a practical action project that will improve their school or community environment. Importantes avances en GEO Juvenil MERCOSUR

 Ceci Iglesias de la Asociación Civil Red Ambientales la Coordinadora Regional de GEO Juvenil MERCOSUREl proceso GEO Juvenil MERCOSUR está en marcha!! Tal como fue anunciado, se llevó a cabo en la ciudad de San Miguel de Tucumán, la primer cumbre de Facilitadores del nuevo proceso sub-regional de GEO Juvenil que ha lanzado el PNUMA, a través de organizaciones de la sociedad civil en el Cono Sur. Se trata del GEO Juvenil MERCOSUR que involucra a los países de Argentina, Uruguay, Brasil y Chile. La Coordinadora Regional, Cecilia Iglesias, dio a conocer un completo Informe sobre aquella cumbre donde se delinearon aspectos fundamentales para el desarrollo del proyecto, los que incluyen: características y estructura del informe, responsabilidades, metodología de trabajo y plan de acción. I got very happy today when I checked my e-mail and saw that many of you had answered the survey about the strategy. Thanks to all of you that made an effort to help us out with this.
Unfortunately there are still some countries in the region that haven't replied. That would be good to have impressions of youth in each country in the region. We haven't received comments from Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobaco, S. Domigo, and Dominican Republic. It has been held since 1991 and has received more than 190,000 entries from children in over 100 countries. This year’s Competition will focus on the challenges of climate change and what we can do about it.
The children’s paintings can focus on concrete actions such as using renewable energy, energy saving light bulbs at home, sharing vehicles and using public transport, planting trees, etc. The competition will run from 1 July 2008 to 15 January 2009. The organizers invite children all over the world to submit their paintings to the UNEP office in their regions.
Entry Rules and Conditions:
Children between the age of 5 and 13 years.
1) Paintings must be done on A4 OR A3 papers. (210 X 295 MM, 11-3/4" x 8-1/4".)
2) Full name, age (day, month, year) and full address including phone and e-mail (in English) must be on the back of the painting.
3) Style of painting is free: crayons, colored pencils, watercolors, etc.
4) Paintings that have been shown or accepted elsewhere will not be accepted in this competition.
5) Paintings that show a particular person, an organization or a brand name will not be accepted.
6) Do not include any words or descriptions in the paintings.
7) Only hard copies of paintings will be accepted. (E-mail entries will only be accepted after by hard copies is received). Prizes: Global winners:
The 1st Prize:
One entrant - US$ 2,000 with a fully paid trip for the winner and a chaperone to the 2009 Tunza International Children’s Conference (date and venue to be confirmed later). The winner will also receive a plaque and supplementary prizes.
The 2nd Prize:
One entrant - US$ 1,000 each and a fully paid trip for winners and chaperones to the 2009 Tunza International Children’s Conference (date and venue to be confirmed later). Each winner will also receive a plaque and supplementary prizes.
The 3rd Prize:
Five entrants – A diploma for each winner (No cash)
The 4th Prize:
Ten entrants – A diploma for each winner (No cash)

One winner only from each region: Africa; Asia and the Pacific; West Asia; Europe; Latin America and the Caribbean; and North America.

(Note that by entering the Competition, you have assigned copyright of your painting(s) to the organizers.
